Grooming the Next Generation of Porsche Enthusiasts

by Sales Team on July 11, 2012

Yesterday I had an interesting thing happen, I had to go out and get milk and my 5 year old, Mitchell, asked “Daddy, can we take the Porsche?”

It was from the time he was 4 that I’ve had Mitchell in the front seat of the Targa with me, as it has no airbags, and he absolutely loves it. I had not realized that this had made such an impression on him. What surprised me was the impression on the neighborhood children as well. The thumbs up we would get as we cruised to the store just shows that every kid loves a Porsche.

I think it is important to get our kids involved in our love of Porsches. This creates some father-son bonding time for Mitchell and I, as well as getting us involved in the Porsche community. We enjoyed numerous outings with the Wild Rose Porsche Club last year as well as regular drives with just the two of us.

Porsche has some great videos that we show in the Parts Department depicting young children seeing a Porsche at a car show. Years later, they are there with their children and the infatuation is passed on to the next generation. As our children grow up in this faceless, texting environment it is nice to get a sense of history and loyalty that seems to be disappearing.

They absolutely love it when another child is on the drive and they can share their excitement as they peruse the line up of cars. As the official navigator, they learn valuable tools that can be used later in life, as well as seeing the province they live in. We have discovered roads we never knew existed, seen beautiful fields of wheat and visited new towns. They also can become the official photographer and you would be surprised of what they take. See the caliper picture below that Mitchell took that on last years Season Opener.

Something that continually brings a smile to my face is my son’s recognition of other Porsches on the road. Even at 5 he already yells out names a certain model whenever we cross paths with another Porsche.

So my recommendation this summer is to get the kids out for a drive, enjoy what little summer we get and create a bond that lasts for generations.
