Porsche Carrera Cup Asia | Rounds 7 & 8 in Thailand

by Sales Team on September 23, 2015

The Porsche Carrera Cup Asia is an exciting series in one-make sports car racing. Rounds 7 & 8 were completed at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand. It is a new racetrack that was opened in and runs clockwise with a length of just over 4.5km. A 1km long straight line complete with 12 turns make up the racetrack that hosted these two rounds for the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia.  The two rounds were held between July 31 and August 2, 2015.

Round 7 saw Chris van der Drift of Kamlung Racing take his fifth consecutive win in this race. Right behind him was a young 17-year-old racer from PICC Team StarChase, Nico Menzel. Because the racetrack was new, it represented a level playing field for rookies and veterans alike, which further enhanced the competitive atmosphere amongst the Porsche 911 Carrera drivers.

Chris van der Drift continued to dominate as he took Round 8 in the competition. With six consecutive wins, the racer is proving to be a major threat out on the racetrack. Nico Menzel isn’t afraid to take on the veteran driver as he finished second for the second time behind van der Drift.

This is the the 13th Porsche Carrera Cup Asia since the series launch in 2003. A combination of experienced drivers and first-time competitors made for interesting racing as everyone brought in their own unique racing style and talent showcased on the track in Porsche 911 Carreras.
